Who We Are
Hello SNAU,
It has been an amazing journey to serve as president for School Nutrition Association of Utah. The best part is getting to know child nutrition professionals throughout the state. I have enjoyed working with fantastic board members.
This has been a year full of virtual board meetings and face masks, restricting the ability to hold meetings in person. With the challenges that have been present, we all have risen to the top. The members and professionals that serve our children have met and exceeded the demands put in front of them and served healthy meals throughout the state. Curbside service was established to meet parent pick up waivers. USDA had twenty-one plus waivers to help service our professionals and help feed children who suffered from food insecurities.
SNAU annual state conference has been restricted to virtual meetings, last year (2020) conference was scheduled in June and a month before the conference was to be held Mountain America cancelled because of COVID. 2021 was scheduled at Mountain America, COVID vaccinations were scheduled through the month of June at the venue so it was cancelled once again. This caused havoc with the budget. It also was a whirlwind to plan a different type of conference both years. We look forward to meet face to face again.
We had our President-Elect resign in February. This position was filled by our Vice-President and we were able to fill the Vice-President position quickly. The membership/certification chair position was also vacated because the term had expired. We have a new Public Relations and Marketing Chair which was vacated also.
This term has helped me grow and learn so much. Ken has truly been a mentor and a fantastic leader. It is through his help that we have been able to work through the strains from COVID. What an honor to serve with him. Amy Woolsey is President-Elect and moving positively forward with the upcoming conference.
We are on track with a strong membership of 988 members. Currently we have 362 members that are certified at different levels. We had Director of the Year Award go to Ken Crawford from Ogden School District. Manager of the Year Award go to Kamie Boren from Weber School District. She also won the Region Manager of the Year Award. Employee of the Year Award went to Rachael Anna King from North Sanpete School District. She won the Region Employee of the Year Award also. Thank you for allowing me to serve you.
